Meet Team Hartlaw: Karen

Meet Team Hartlaw: Karen

29 Jul 2019
Conveyancing Executive here at Hartlaw and another of our Wetherby locals, Karen from our Residential Property team sat down with us to answer a few quickfire questions, so that you can get to know her a little better.
So, Karen, how long have you worked at Hartlaw?
15 years.
Describe your job in just 3 words.
Hectic, challenging, rewarding.
What is the best part of doing your job and why?
I like guiding first time buyers through their first home purchase. It is a very exciting time for them and I enjoy being a part of that.
What is your favourite thing on your desk right now?
I have a photo of my daughter at her school prom, she just looked so beautiful and very happy.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given, and who shared it with you?
There is no such word as “can’t” – my dad believes you should always at least try.
What was the last piece of training you finished/course you attended and what did you learn from it?
A course on reporting to my client on their purchase. I learnt that you should try and speak to your client in plain English and not legal jargon.
Where is your happy place?
I have recently discovered “Port de Soller” in Majorca. I loved it and have just booked to go back next month.
Do you have a favourite hobby?
I’ve just taken up knitting again in readiness for any prospective grandchildren (none due yet, but I want to be up to speed!).
What was your last good watch?
Line of Duty. I’ve watched every series, sometimes from behind a cushion!
Cats v. dogs?
Tea v. Coffee?
Green tea with berries in the morning to kickstart the day, then default to Yorkshire Tea in the afternoon.
What is your favourite time of the year and why?
I love the summer. Long days, warm nights, barbeques, days out, holidays!
Where is your favourite place in Yorkshire and why?
Brimham Rocks. My kids used to love going there when they were little.
Plan B - If you weren’t doing this job, what would you like to have done instead?
I think I might quite have liked to be a teacher. I’m quite bossy, apparently!
What’s at the top of your Bucket List?
I’d like to go to Russia. I’ve always found their history fascinating and I would love to visit St Petersburg.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what can you not live without and why?
Make-up - to maintain standards!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Love the song “mmmbop” by Hanson. Sad, I know!
If you could bring back something from your childhood, what would it be?
Bazooka bubblegum, spangles and marathon bars. You’ll have had to be born in the sixties to remember these!
